Online business progress this weekend was actually pretty good. There was a lot of work, a little training, and as usual, slightly less time than I somehow expected to have.
I have mentioned before that I am a serious time optimist.
That has not changed.
But even though I did not get everything done, I made progress on something that I think could become very important for the business.
I improved the way my blog can turn visitors into email subscribers.
A Better Opt-In System Is Now Live
One weakness in my online business has been fairly obvious.
I can create blog posts.
I can publish on Substack.
I can share content on X, Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and other platforms.
But what happens when somebody actually visits my website?
Until now, there has not been a particularly strong reason for them to join my email list.
That is something I wanted to fix.
So this weekend I created a new opt-in opportunity on the blog, together with another opt-in that can appear while someone is browsing the site.
That might sound like a relatively small technical change.
I do not think it is.
If I spend hours creating content and generating traffic, I want to have a system that can turn at least some of those visitors into people I can communicate with again.
Otherwise, every new visitor can easily become a one-time visitor.
An email subscriber is different.
That relationship can continue.

Why the Opt-In Work Matters
It is very easy to become obsessed with traffic.
More views.
More impressions.
More clicks.
More followers.
But traffic alone does not necessarily build an online business.
If someone discovers one of my articles, reads it, and disappears forever, I am almost back at zero the next day.
That is why I increasingly think the email list is going to be one of the most important assets I build.
Someone finds my content.
They visit the website.
They decide they want to hear more.
They join the list.
Now I have an opportunity to continue the conversation.
That could eventually make every future visitor more valuable.
The next challenge is obviously getting enough organic traffic into the system.
But at least the system itself is becoming more complete.
Another Subscriber
My earnings are still at approximately the same level as before.
So there is no dramatic income update this time.
But I did get another subscriber on my email list.
One subscriber obviously does not change the business.
But I think it is important to keep reporting the small numbers as well as any future bigger ones.
That is part of documenting this journey properly.
Right now I am much more interested in seeing whether I can gradually start generating subscribers organically.
Most of my subscribers so far have come through an existing traffic source rather than people naturally discovering my content.
Changing that is one of the next big goals.
If the blog, Substack, Pinterest, X, or another platform starts producing subscribers on its own, that will be a meaningful milestone.
The Almost Automated Traffic Project Has Not Started Yet
Then there is my other project.
I recently talked about building something closer to an almost automated traffic system.
How much progress did I make on that this weekend?
None.
I had planned to.
Then the weekend happened.
Work took time.
Other things took time.
And once again I discovered that my imaginary 40-hour day does not actually exist.
The project is still very much on the agenda.
I just have not started it properly yet.
That is probably going to be a recurring theme in these updates.
I make plans.
Reality gets involved.
Then I adjust.
I Kept Publishing
Even though the traffic project did not move forward, I continued doing the normal content work.
I published and shared my usual posts across social media.
That may not feel particularly exciting when there is no immediate commission attached to it.
But I increasingly see every piece of content as another possible entrance into the business.
One Substack post might bring somebody next week.
A Pinterest Pin could potentially be discovered much later.
A blog article might eventually rank in search.
An X post could introduce somebody to the site.
The challenge is getting enough of those small pieces working simultaneously.
That is why I do not want to stop simply because the immediate results are still modest.
A Few Hours Will Go Somewhere Else This Week
I have also promised to help with something outside work during the coming week.
That will probably take a few hours.
And that is completely fine.
Everyone involved contributes with different things, and this happens to be one of mine.
It does mean that a few hours I might otherwise have spent on the online business will disappear.
But that is normal life.
The business has to be built around everything else that needs to happen too.
I am trying to become better at accepting that rather than creating a schedule that assumes nothing unexpected will ever happen.
The Bigger Picture Is Starting to Make More Sense
This is what I find most encouraging right now.
The individual pieces are beginning to connect.
Content can generate attention.
Attention can generate website visitors.
Visitors can become email subscribers.
Email gives me a way to continue the relationship.
And relevant affiliate offers can eventually become part of that relationship.
That is much more interesting to me than simply posting affiliate links and hoping somebody clicks.
The goal is to build a system that becomes more valuable as more people enter it.

Another Week Begins
So overall, I am happy with the weekend.
There was plenty of work.
A little training.
Another email subscriber.
The normal social media activity continued.
And most importantly, I finally improved an important part of the blog that I had been meaning to fix.
The almost automated traffic project will have to wait a little longer.
Time optimist Fredrik strikes again.
But the business is still moving forward.
And that is what matters.
