YouTube affiliate product research using vidIQ and Amazon Best Sellers to find low competition fitness products

YouTube Affiliate Product Research: My Next Video

YouTube Affiliate Product Research: My Next Video

Some mornings you wake up feeling tired. Other mornings, you wake up ready to take on the world.

Today was definitely the second kind.

I woke up with an incredible amount of energy and that wonderful feeling of wanting to get as much done as possible.

Alongside my regular work and exercise, one of my main priorities today is YouTube affiliate product research for the next video on my fitness channel, Fit After 40.

And I have to say, I’m really enjoying this part of building my online business.

Finding the Right Opportunity in Affiliate Marketing

One thing I’ve learned during my affiliate marketing journey is that choosing the right opportunity matters.

That applies whether you’re promoting digital products or physical products.

For my digital affiliate marketing business, ClickBank Profit Club has been the foundation that helped me start generating real commissions.

It’s where I began turning what I was learning into actual results.

If you’re interested in exploring the system that helped me get started, you can join for free.

My YouTube business is a different challenge, but many of the same principles apply.

You need to find something people actually want.

And preferably, you want to find it before everyone else is competing for their attention.

YouTube Affiliate Product Research: Demand vs Competition

Having a relatively small YouTube channel means I have to be smart about which products I choose to promote.

I can’t simply pick the most popular product on Amazon and expect my video to compete with established channels that already have thousands of subscribers and years of experience.

That’s why I’ve been spending time researching potential products before committing to another video.

I’ve been using tools and resources including:

  • vidIQ: To research YouTube search demand, keywords and competition.
  • Amazon Best Sellers: To identify products that are attracting customer interest.
  • Additional research methods: To compare opportunities and narrow down my choices.

My ideal opportunity is a product with medium-to-high demand but low or very low competition on YouTube.

Of course, these research tools provide estimates rather than guarantees. And a product being popular on Amazon doesn’t automatically mean people are searching for videos about it.

That’s why I believe combining different research methods is so important.

For a small creator, finding the right opportunity could make a significant difference.

I’d much rather spend time researching a promising product than invest hours creating a video nobody is particularly interested in watching.

The Product Is Selected. Now Comes the Script.

The good news is that I’ve now decided which product to feature in my next video.

That’s one important decision out of the way!

Now it’s time to move forward with the actual production process, starting with the script.

And there’s something I’ve become increasingly convinced about during my YouTube training.

A good affiliate video should solve a problem, not simply advertise a product.

I don’t want viewers to feel like they’re watching a commercial.

I want them to feel like they’ve discovered something useful.

Instead of building a video around how wonderful a product supposedly is, I want to start by understanding the viewer.

What problem are they trying to solve?

What makes that problem frustrating?

How could this particular product help?

And are there any limitations the viewer should know about?

Those questions should guide the script.

The product should fit naturally into the story as a potential solution.

I think that’s a much better approach than simply listing features and telling people to buy something.

It’s also the kind of content I would personally prefer to watch.

Whether this approach produces better results remains to be seen, but it’s the direction I want to take.

Two Different Sides of My Affiliate Marketing Business

Something else I’m enjoying is that I’m gradually developing two different areas of affiliate marketing.

My YouTube channel, Fit After 40, focuses on physical products, particularly fitness-related equipment available through Amazon.

The idea is to create genuinely useful videos that help people understand whether a product could be right for them.

My other business focuses primarily on digital products, affiliate marketing systems and building an online audience.

And that’s where my next mentoring session becomes particularly interesting.

Looking Forward to Monday With John Thornhill

Next Monday, October 12, I have another mentoring session with John Thornhill.

I’m really looking forward to it.

John is someone I consider a master of affiliate marketing, and having the opportunity to learn directly from him is something I genuinely appreciate.

Our work together goes beyond simply promoting affiliate offers.

One important part of the mentorship is learning how to develop digital products of my own.

That means understanding how to identify opportunities, create products people actually want, build the marketing around them and develop a business that isn’t entirely dependent on commissions from other people’s products.

This is a direction I’m very excited about.

It’s also where Coaching Profit System fits into my longer-term plans.

ClickBank Profit Club helped me begin earning affiliate commissions. Coaching Profit System represents another stage: learning how to build digital products and business assets of my own.

It’s not a shortcut to guaranteed success, but it’s closely connected to the direction I want to take my online business.

I’m particularly interested to see what John and I will work on next.

Building an Online Business Around Everyday Life

Of course, none of this means my regular responsibilities disappear.

Today still includes my usual work and exercise.

And once this blog post is published, I’ll share it across my usual social media platforms:

X, Substack, Facebook, LinkedIn and Pinterest.

These activities might not always produce immediate results, but they are part of building an audience and keeping my business moving forward.

I also want to keep improving how I track traffic from these platforms so I can eventually make better decisions about where to spend my time.

Yesterday, I wrote about my YouTube mentoring experience and whether I’m ready to continue more independently.

If you missed that update, you can read it here:

Affiliate Marketing Mentorship: Am I Ready to Go Solo?

That question is particularly relevant now that I’ve selected my next YouTube product and am beginning work on the script.

It’s time to put more of what I’ve learned into practice.

Some Days You Just Feel Ready to Go

I don’t know exactly how my next YouTube video will perform.

And I certainly don’t know how quickly my digital product business will develop.

But I do know that I’m enjoying the process.

Researching opportunities, writing scripts, learning from experienced marketers and gradually building different parts of my online business is genuinely exciting.

My long-term goal is still to reach $10,000 per month in online income.

I’m not there yet, and I know there’s plenty of work ahead.

But today is one of those days when the work doesn’t really feel like work.

I woke up full of energy.

I’ve found my next YouTube product.

I’ve got a script to write.

And on Monday, another opportunity to learn directly from John Thornhill.

Time to get to work!
