Affiliate marketing mentorship has been an important part of my journey toward building a successful online business. Today, I reached a point where I may need to put everything I’ve learned into practice without the same level of guidance.
I had what could be my final coaching session with my YouTube mentor, who has been teaching me how to create videos specifically designed to promote physical products through Amazon affiliate marketing.
I’d love to continue, but whether I can afford more sessions remains to be seen. And perhaps it’s also time to find out how well I can manage on my own.
Meanwhile, the business keeps moving forward. I’ve gained another email subscriber, and my total affiliate earnings have reached approximately $1,185.
That’s my cumulative income so far, not my monthly income. I’m still working toward my much bigger goal of $10,000 per month.
ClickBank Profit Club: The Foundation of My First Earnings
One of the reasons I remain optimistic about my future in affiliate marketing is that I’ve already seen real results.
ClickBank Profit Club, created by John Thornhill, has been particularly important in helping me generate my first meaningful affiliate commissions.
What I appreciate about the program is the emphasis on building an audience, collecting email subscribers and developing a system rather than simply posting affiliate links everywhere.
I’m still learning, but I now understand much better how traffic, list building, follow-up and relevant offers can work together.

What My YouTube Coaching Has Really Taught Me
My YouTube coaching has been a completely different but equally valuable learning experience.
The focus has been on creating videos that showcase physical products and help viewers decide whether those products might be useful to them.
I’ve been working on videos promoting adjustable dumbbells through Amazon’s affiliate program.
Before starting this coaching, I underestimated just how many details go into creating an effective product video.
It’s not enough to put together some attractive images and add a link.
The script needs to make sense. The visuals should match what’s being discussed. The first few seconds must give people a reason to keep watching.
And the editing needs to feel natural.
I’ve also spent a considerable amount of time working on subtitles, text placement and video formatting.
Sometimes the smallest adjustments have taken far longer than expected.
For example, moving subtitles so they don’t cover a person’s face or the exercise equipment can create unexpected problems when adapting a video for several different platforms.
YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels, Pinterest and Facebook don’t always present content in exactly the same way.
These are the kinds of practical details that are easy to overlook until you start creating videos yourself.
My mentor has also taught me the importance of reviewing performance data rather than guessing what works.
Views are interesting, but they don’t tell the whole story.
I also need to pay attention to click-through rates, audience retention, average viewing duration and affiliate link clicks.
And perhaps most importantly, I need to use that information to improve the next video.
Three Lessons I’m Taking From Affiliate Marketing Mentorship
Looking back at my coaching experience, three lessons stand out.
1. Good content requires more planning than I expected
A useful product video should answer questions a potential customer actually has.
What does the product do? How might it fit into someone’s daily life? What are its advantages and limitations?
The better I understand the viewer’s needs, the more useful my content can become.
2. Small details matter, but perfection can become expensive
I want my videos to look professional.
However, spending hours making tiny adjustments isn’t always the best use of my time.
At some point, I have to publish, measure the results and move forward.
My challenge is finding the right balance between quality and consistency.
3. Learning something isn’t the same as mastering it
Having a mentor explain what to do is incredibly helpful.
But eventually, I need to make decisions independently.
The real question is whether I can repeat the process, identify my own mistakes and improve without someone checking every detail.
That’s the next challenge I’m facing.
Is It Time to Continue Without My YouTube Mentor?
I genuinely appreciate the coaching I’ve received.
The sessions have been practical, informative and, at times, demanding.
That’s a good thing.
I’ve learned far more than I would have learned simply by watching a few random YouTube tutorials.
But coaching is also an investment.
And since my online business is still in its early stages, I have to be careful about how much money I spend.
I haven’t decided whether to book additional sessions.
That will partly depend on affordability and partly on how well things go when I start working more independently.
For now, I have knowledge to apply, videos to create and performance data to study.
I don’t need to know everything before moving forward.
I need to get better through practice.
My Next Meeting With John Thornhill Is Already on Monday
Fortunately, even if my YouTube coaching comes to an end, I still have another mentor.
John Thornhill, the creator of ClickBank Profit Club, remains an extremely important part of my affiliate marketing journey.
And my next meeting with him is already scheduled for Monday, October 12.
I’m really looking forward to it.
John’s mentorship focuses more broadly on building an affiliate marketing business, developing marketing systems and creating something that can grow beyond individual commissions.
That’s an important distinction.
Creating useful YouTube videos is one skill.
Building an online business that can consistently attract an audience and generate sales is another.
I want to develop both.
From Affiliate Commissions to Building My Own Online Business
One of the things that increasingly interests me is the idea of building assets that I control.
Affiliate marketing can be a useful starting point because you can recommend existing products without having to create everything yourself.
That’s essentially what ClickBank Profit Club has helped me begin doing.
But I’m also interested in taking the next step.
Rather than relying entirely on promoting other people’s products, I want to explore creating my own digital products and building a more substantial business.
That’s where Coaching Profit System, another program associated with John Thornhill, fits into my longer-term plans.
It represents a different stage of the journey: moving from learning to generate affiliate commissions toward developing products and business assets of my own.
For anyone interested in that approach, here’s the program I’m exploring:

It’s not a shortcut to guaranteed income, but it reflects the direction I would eventually like my business to take.
Another Subscriber and Approximately $1,185 Earned
There’s also been another encouraging development today.
I’ve gained one more email subscriber.
That might not seem like a major milestone, but every new subscriber matters when you’re building an audience from a relatively small starting point.
I’m not using a huge paid advertising budget to attract people.
Instead, I’m trying to build through content, social media, relationships and consistent work.
My total affiliate earnings now stand at approximately $1,185.
Naturally, I’d like that number to grow faster.
But I also know that building a reliable online business takes time.
Earlier this week, I wrote about receiving my second $60 commission from the same customer’s subscription.
If you missed that update, you can read it here:
ClickBank Recurring Commissions: My Second $60 Payment
Recurring commissions are particularly interesting because an existing customer may generate additional payments while their subscription remains active.
Of course, subscriptions can end, and future earnings are never guaranteed.
Still, seeing that second payment arrive was encouraging.
And today’s additional subscriber is another small step forward.
A Very Quiet Day at My Regular Job
My regular job was exceptionally quiet today.
I only worked a couple of hours, and there was very little happening.
That’s especially frustrating because my income from that work is commission-based.
When activity is low, so are my opportunities to earn.
It’s another reminder of why I’m putting so much effort into building an online business.
I’d like to have more control over my time and income.
Of course, affiliate marketing has its own uncertainties.
Some days bring commissions. Other days bring nothing.
But with content creation, email list building and business development, I feel that I’m gradually building something of my own.
That’s a very motivating thought.
Preparing My Next Offer for Email Subscribers
Another priority today is preparing my next offer for the people on my email list.
It’s an offer I’m genuinely excited about, and I believe it could be particularly attractive to the right audience.
Naturally, I’m hoping that many subscribers will take an interest in it.
But I also know that successful email marketing isn’t simply about presenting an offer and hoping people buy.
The offer needs to be relevant.
The message needs to be clear.
And the people receiving it need to understand why it might be valuable to them.
I want my email list to become a long-term business asset built on trust, not simply a place to send promotional messages.
That means continuing to provide useful information alongside relevant recommendations.
After publishing this article, I’ll also share it through my usual social media channels.
Then it’s back to preparing the email campaign and working on the next steps for my videos.
The Next Chapter: More Independence, More Responsibility
Today has been an interesting combination of progress and uncertainty.
My affiliate marketing mentorship may be entering a new stage.
I might have had my final YouTube coaching session, at least for now.
But I also have another subscriber, approximately $1,185 in cumulative affiliate earnings, a new email offer to prepare and a meeting with John Thornhill to look forward to on Monday.
Most importantly, I have a growing collection of skills that I didn’t have when I started.
I now understand much more about creating YouTube product videos, distributing content across several platforms, building an email list and measuring results.
There’s still an enormous amount to learn.
But the next stage may be less about receiving instructions and more about making my own decisions.
My biggest takeaway from affiliate marketing mentorship is that knowledge only becomes valuable when you put it into practice.
That’s exactly what I intend to keep doing.
My long-term goal remains $10,000 per month.
I’m not there yet, and I have no idea how long it will take.
But I’m making progress.
And for now, that’s more than enough reason to keep going.
