My first affiliate marketing commission was only $5, but it gave me something more valuable than the amount itself: proof that the process can work.
It was a slightly cloudy morning when I woke up today.
I started the day as I usually do, with a proper breakfast followed by a walk. Nothing dramatic. Just a steady beginning before getting back to work.
My email list is still sitting at five people.
That number may not sound impressive, but I know that building a list takes time. Five subscribers are not a reason to panic, change direction, or start looking for another opportunity.
They are a reason to keep going.
Consistency is the key.
The old shiny object trap
One of the easiest mistakes in affiliate marketing is changing direction too quickly.
You start building something, see little progress, and assume the model is not working.
Then another tool, course, platform, or opportunity appears.
It looks more exciting.
It promises a cleaner start.
Before long, you are starting again instead of building on what you already have.
I have fallen into that trap before, and I do not want to repeat it.
Right now, my focus is clear.
ClickBank Profit Club is the main affiliate resource I am working with. Around that, I am building content and a simple system that can support traffic, list building, and follow-up over time.
That includes:
- Blog posts
- Substack articles and Notes
- Posts on X
- Posts on LinkedIn
- Email list building
- Ongoing follow-up
None of these activities is likely to transform everything overnight.
The goal is to create useful content that can continue attracting the right people over time.
That means thinking in months and years, not just days.
What My First Affiliate Marketing Commission Taught Me
So far, I have earned $5.
That sounds insignificant, right?
In financial terms, it is obviously a very small amount. It does not change my life or replace the income from my regular job.
But that does not make it meaningless.
My first affiliate marketing commission showed me that earning money online was possible.
The money came through the rotator link offered inside ClickBank Profit Club. The founder of the program sends that link to his own lists of potential buyers, which can create the possibility of commissions for members.
That does not mean commissions are guaranteed.
Results still depend on many factors, including the offer, the audience, traffic, follow-up, consistency, timing, and execution.
But receiving that first small commission still mattered.
It turned an idea into something real.
The lesson is not that $5 is a major financial result.
The lesson is that small proof can make it easier to keep doing the work.
What I am doing today
Today is not going to be a huge business-building day.
I also have seven hours of work at my regular job.
My realistic task list looks like this:
- Publish three Substack Notes
- Complete my regular seven-hour workday
- Publish the blog post you are reading now
- Continue one lesson from the coaching program I am currently following
The coaching program has been very good so far.
It includes twelve private one-hour sessions with a mentor, along with group sessions that continue well into 2028.
Those group sessions take place in the middle of the night here in Sweden, so attending live is not always practical.
Fortunately, the sessions are available as replays.
One of those recordings is what I plan to watch today.
That may not sound like an extraordinary schedule, but it is realistic.
Realistic work that gets completed is more valuable than an ambitious plan that gets abandoned.
Building something that can compound
My goal is not simply to publish more links.
I want to build a system where useful content leads to subscribers, subscribers receive relevant follow-up, and recommendations are made with enough context and trust behind them.
The link itself is not the business.
The content, the list, the relationship, and the follow-up are the real long-term assets.
That is why a five-person email list still matters.
That is why a $5 commission still matters.
They are small beginnings, but they are part of a larger process.
The important thing now is not to overreact, change direction, or chase another shiny object.
It is to keep publishing.
Keep learning.
Keep improving the system.
Keep going.
